What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?

The goal of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is to identify patterns in thinking that drive emotions and behaviours to improve mood, self-esteem and quality of life.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Managing generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic or phobias by developing supportive coping strategies
  • Improving depressive symptoms by identifying and interrupting thought patterns
  • Confronting and managing obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours through exposure and response prevention
  • Addressing unsupportive or deprecating beliefs about body image, self-worth and food
  • Improving sleeping habits and implementing relaxation techniques to reduce insomnia
  • Recognizing anger and challenging these thoughts in ways that promote more effective ways of expressing feelings
  • Identifying negative self-perceptions and beliefs
  • Fostering self-compassion, positive self-image and esteem
  • Reframing and problem-solving skills to manage stress and enhance resilience

Our therapists will ask you to think about how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours interact. CBT can be tailored to support your specific needs and circumstances with the understanding that if you can change the way you think, you can change the way you feel.

  1. At Bliss, we believe your counselling should be as unique as you are. We’ll begin by getting you matched with the perfect therapist for you.
  2. Then, you’ll get started with your initial session. During this appointment (virtual or in-person, your pick), you’ll connect with your therapist and share your current situation, what you’re currently struggling with and where you’d like to grow.
  3. From here, you and your therapist will begin working through CBT exercises and activities. You’ll work together to identify assumptions, or patterns of thinking, that may be driving anxiety, depression or low self-esteem. After each session, you’ll leave with homework and ideas for positive lifestyle changes that will improve your quality of life.

We know the long term difference that CBT can make. If you’re ready to make positive lifestyle changes that will benefit you and your relationships, we’d love to help you get started.
