Solution-Focused Therapy WHAT IS SOLUTION-FOCUSED BRIEF THERAPY? Solution-Focused Brief Therapy is an approach to psychotherapy based on solution-building rather than problem-solving. It explores current resources and future hopes rather than present problems and past causes. All therapy is a form of specialized conversations. With Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), the conversation is directed toward developing and achieving your vision of solutions. It focuses on what you want to achieve through therapy rather than on the problem or problems that made you seek help. Using SFBT we help you to construct a concrete vision of what your preferred future state would look like. We then help you to identify times in your current life that are closer to this future, and examine what is different on these occasions. By bringing these small successes to your awareness, and helping you to repeat these successes, you will gradually move towards the preferred future you have identified. It is your decision whether or not you do solution-focused brief therapy or whether you engage in a more long-term in-depth treatment process.
