Out-of-control sexual behaviours.
This bi-weekly process group is open to men of all sexual orientations who are engaging in consensual behaviour and feel that it is out-of-control (commonly referred to as porn or sex addiction). If you’re feeling isolated, disconnected from yourself or others, or burdened by shame and guilt, this group offers a safe and confidential space to explore these challenges and begin rebuilding your relationship with yourself and those who matter to you.
- Learn how to identify your feelings and how to share these with others
- Develop skills to increase self-awareness and better manage your emotional reactions
- Get to the root of your sexual urges and behaviours as well as how they do or do not relate to or reflect your values
- Acquire strategies to rebuild trust, intimacy, and connection within your relationships
- Break the cycle of compulsive behaviour
- Be provided with evidence-based sex education and additional resources for your sexual well-being
- Connect with other men experiencing similar challenges and who understand your experiences

A process group is different from traditional group therapy in that it focuses on your emotions in the moment – what’s going on for you right now, in the group, and in your life. This allows you to respond to your feelings in real-time. Over the course of the group, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of yourself, your emotional responses, your triggers, and the behavioural patterns that no longer serve you.
In this group, you will be encouraged to explore how your beliefs about sex developed and how that influences your perspective on your behaviours today. You will be asked to consider what direction you would like to take in terms of changes to your behaviour and create a sexual health plan, guided by the 6 Principles Of Sexual Health. The group members are responsible for sharing honestly about their own journey and providing feedback to their peers.
The sexual health assessment and treatment protocol used for this group are based off Treating Out of Control Sexual Behaviour – Rethinking Sex Addiction.
Please note that this group is not for those engaging in nonconsensual sexual behaviours. If you are a Canadian resident in need of support with nonconsensual sexual behaviours, please visit: talkingforchange.ca.
