She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Waterloo as well as an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in East Asian Studies from the University of Toronto. Yumiko is a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) as well as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). Therapeutic Style: Yumiko strives to create an inclusive, warm space that honours her client’s autonomy and lived experiences. She believes that developing an authentic therapeutic relationship with her clients through her compassion, transparency, and sense of humour is foundational to a transformative healing experience. Therapeutic Approach: Yumiko uses a 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming, anti-oppressive, collaborative and integrative approach when working with clients. She firmly believes that her client is the expert of their own life and that her role is to offer therapeutic skills, flexibility, and lived experience to support them in identifying and meeting their goals. Yumiko customises her treatment plans to meet the needs of each of her clients by incorporating elements of Client-Centred Humanistic Therapy, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and other evidence-based practices. Yumiko has a particular interest in working with trauma and believes that everyone deserves to have their experiences validated and witnessed. She is passionate about empowering her clients, and she strives to do so by encouraging them to develop healthy boundaries and self-compassion. Born and raised in Ottawa, she has an interest in connecting with her Japanese heritage, Earth-based spiritual practices, photography, and travel. She enjoys spending her free time going for walks and watching shows with her partner, connecting with family and friends, listening to music, and curled up on the couch with her cats and a good book.
