What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the practice of bringing our attention to the present moment with curiosity, openness and acceptance. When practicing mindfulness, we focus on what is happening “here and now,” facilitating a deeper connection between our mind and body.
Mindfulness can help with:
- Stress reduction, relaxation, deeper sleep, anxiety and depression
- Observing your thoughts and feelings without judgement
- Building a compassionate relationship with your emotions, allowing you to respond to situations more calmly and thoughtfully
- Attention and concentration, especially if you are experiencing difficulties with focusing
- Gaining greater self-awareness and insights into your thoughts, feelings and behaviours
- Emotional resilience during setbacks or difficult life events so that you can approach challenges with an open and non-reactive mindset
- Improving communication and empathy, reducing conflict, and improving your intentionality, presence and the quality of your relationships
- Managing chronic pain, focusing on the moment to lessen the intensity
- Encouraging self-compassion and a non-judgemental attitude toward oneself, especially if you’re struggling with self-esteem or a harsh internal critic
