What is Discernment Counselling?
In its most basic terms, Discernment Counselling helps couples decide whether to separate, try to make it work, or hit pause and decide later. Making the choice to stay or leave can be overwhelming, but an unbiased outside opinion and process can provide much-needed clarity to move forward with confidence.
Discernment Counselling can help with:
- Feelings that one partner is “in” and the other is “out”
- Dissatisfaction, resentment, and hard feelings towards a partner
- Feeling stuck or trapped in an unfulfilling marriage or relationship
- Analysis paralysis or fear of making the wrong decision
- Getting an unbiased expert opinion vs. talking to your friends again
- The desire for a clear path forward
- Fear that your marriage is ending or desperation to “save” it
- Conflicted feelings about relationship transitions and life crossroads
- A lack of confidence or flip-flopping and conflicting thoughts on how to move forward
How does Discernment Counselling work at Bliss?
While no two couples are the same, working with a therapist can provide powerful insights to help you determine the right path for your future.
- At Bliss, we believe your counselling should be as unique as your relationship. We’ll begin by getting you matched with the perfect therapist for you and your partner(s). All Bliss therapists are highly trained in evidence-based techniques, so you’ll be in reliable, trustworthy hands.
- Then, you’ll get started with your initial session. During this appointment (virtual or in-person), you and your partner will share your struggles and goals with your therapist. You’ll each receive individual time to communicate with the therapist (who will not pick sides).
- From here, we take it one appointment at a time. You’ll meet with your therapist approximately five times, working through exercises, tools, and talking points until you and your partner feel clear and confident in your decision-making.
