What is Trauma Therapy?
Trauma occurs when we face devastating events that overwhelm our nervous system. This can lead to Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS), manifesting as persistent anxiety and stress. Trauma responses can also be linked to certain personalities, like borderline or bipolar, and is common among those who have endured war and abuse or worked as first responders.
Trauma therapy can help with:
- A better understanding of yourself and how your trauma affects your life
- Insomnia, flashbacks or recurring nightmares
- Feeling more ease, safety and freedom in your body
- Developing compassion and love for yourself
- Relieving anxiety and panic attacks
- Physical symptoms like nausea and headaches
- Use of alcohol, substances, or other forms of escapism, and addiction
- Restoring or building a sense of connection and trust with others and the outside world
- Building a toolkit to cope, regulate and process emotions
- A renewed sense of hope in your life and strengthening your relationship with others
How does Trauma therapy work at Bliss?
While no two traumatic experiences are the same, we have a team of highly-trained, compassionate therapists with tools that can help you experience more peace and vitality.
- At Bliss, we believe your counselling should be as unique as you are. We’ll begin by getting you matched with a therapist you “click” with. When you know, you know!
- Then, you’ll get started with your initial session. During this appointment (virtual or in-person, up to you), you’ll share what you hope to get from sessions with your therapist. You’ll leave with a better understanding of yourself and how your trauma impacts your relationship with yourself and others.
- From here, you and your therapist will create a custom path to restoring inner-peace and a sense of safety again. After each session, you’ll leave feeling grounded and greater clarity.
- You and your therapist will work together to determine how many sessions will support your healing. Once you’ve established a relationship with your therapist, you can restart therapy whenever you need extra support.
