Rebecca St. James
Therapist / MSW, RSWshe/her/hersRebecca holds a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University, where she specialized in Advanced Clinical Practice. She also holds honours degrees in Neuroscience and Contemporary Studies from Dalhousie University. Her interdisciplinary background shapes the way she understands mental health such that Rebecca considers the many parts of our lives that make us who we are, from our bodies and relationships to our past experiences, identities, communities, and the world around us.
Rebecca is warm, curious, open-minded, and down-to-earth. She believes that therapy works best when you feel genuinely comfortable with your therapist and free to show up as yourself, even when what you are carrying feels complicated, vulnerable, embarrassing, or difficult to put into words. You can expect Rebecca to listen closely and approach your experiences with curiosity rather than judgment. She will celebrate your progress, sit with you through the difficult moments, and gently challenge you when it may help you grow. Together, you will work toward understanding yourself more deeply and building greater trust in your ability to navigate your life.
Rebecca takes a collaborative and person-centred approach to therapy. This means that you are an active participant in deciding what you want to work toward and what feels most helpful along the way. Rather than assuming there is one “right” way to be, Rebecca wants to understand who you are, what matters to you, and what a meaningful life looks like on your terms. She also believes there is plenty of room for humour and humanity in therapy. Rebecca brings her authentic self into the room and hopes you will feel comfortable bringing yours too.
