After completing his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Waterloo, Thiviyan went on to receive his Master of Social Work from Western University. He is a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW).
Thiviyan’s practice is first-and-foremost built on a trauma-informed foundation, as he understands the effects of childhood trauma that can manifest in adulthood and relationships. He listens for clients to share their experiences and considers whether they could be understood from an Attachment-Based Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), or Gottman Method Relational Therapy perspective. He also uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) in his sessions to educate clients about the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and actions and how to apply this knowledge to improve their well-being.
Thiviyan is a child of immigrant parents from Sri Lanka and is a proud Tamil (தமிழà¯) Canadian. He is also the author of the children’s book series “When I’m at a 10” which teaches kids how to manage their emotions using mindfulness. During his spare time, Thiviyan enjoys playing basketball and board games with friends.
Many Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) and extended health care plans will cover services rendered by a Registered Social Worker (RSW)
