Is Therapy Right For Me?

Not sure if therapy is right for you? You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. Bliss Counselling serves clients in Waterloo, Milton, and across Ontario, virtually and in person.

How Do I Know If Therapy Is Right for Me?

If you’ve ever caught yourself wondering, “Do I actually need therapy?” or “Would talking to someone really help?” you’re not alone. Most people sit with that question for months, sometimes years, before ever booking a first appointment.

The good news: the fact that you’re asking is already a meaningful sign.

At Bliss Counselling + Psychotherapy, we work with individuals across Waterloo, Milton, and Ontario who are navigating everything from everyday stress to major life transitions. And one thing we hear consistently is this; people waited longer than they needed to.

You Don’t Need to Be in Crisis to Benefit from Therapy

One of the most persistent myths about therapy is that you need to hit rock bottom before it’s “worth it.” That’s simply not true.

Psychotherapy and counselling can support you through:

  • Stress, anxiety, or a general sense of feeling overwhelmed
  • Difficulty managing emotions or reactions
  • Relationship challenges; romantic, family, or friendships
  • Low self-esteem or struggles with self-worth
  • Burnout from work, school, or caregiving
  • Major life transitions; a new job, a breakup, a move, parenthood
  • Grief or loss
  • Feeling stuck, unmotivated, or unclear on your direction
  • Sometimes people start therapy simply because they want a dedicated space to reflect, process, and grow with someone who’s genuinely in their corner.
What Does Therapy Actually Help With?

Therapy provides a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can explore what’s going on beneath the surface. You and your therapist work together to identify patterns, develop coping strategies, and build the insight and skills that support lasting change.

Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, relationship stress, emotional regulation challenges, or a sense that something just isn’t right; individual therapy in Milton can help you move forward with more clarity and confidence.

“My approach is warm, collaborative, and client-centred. I strive to create a space where clients feel comfortable, supported, and empowered to explore challenges at their own pace.”

“But I Don’t Know What to Talk About”

This is one of the most common concerns people share before their first session, and one of the most understandable.

You don’t need to arrive with an agenda. Many clients start therapy knowing only that something doesn’t feel quite right. Part of the work is figuring out what that something is.

A good therapist meets you where you are, at your own pace. There’s no pressure to have it figured out before you walk through the door (or log on, if you’re joining virtually).

Affordable Therapy in Milton + Virtual Across Ontario

If cost has been a barrier to starting therapy, this may be the right fit.

Taruny offers individual therapy sessions at $100 per session; an accessible rate for clients in Milton and virtually across Ontario, including the GTA and Waterloo Region. As a therapist intern completing her supervised practice hours, Taruny works under the direct clinical oversight of Tammy Benwell, MSW, RSW, co-owner of Bliss Counselling Milton. That means you’re getting attentive, client-centred care with an experienced clinician actively involved in your treatment.

Supervised practice therapy is a well-established model in Ontario’s mental health system; it’s how emerging therapists build clinical depth while clients receive quality, accountable care at a reduced rate. You get the best of both: a therapist who is fully present and invested in your growth, backed by senior-level expertise.

Taking the First Step

Starting therapy can feel like a big move. It’s also one of the most meaningful investments you can make in yourself.

You don’t have to navigate life’s challenges alone; and you don’t have to wait for things to get worse before you reach out.

If you’ve been wondering whether therapy is right for you, that curiosity alone is worth exploring.

Frequently Asked Questions About Starting Therapy Do I need a diagnosis or referral to start therapy in Ontario?

No. In Ontario, you don’t need a referral or a formal diagnosis to access psychotherapy or counselling. You can book directly with a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) or Registered Social Worker (RSW).

What’s the difference between a Registered Psychotherapist and a Registered Social Worker?

Both are regulated mental health professionals in Ontario. RPs are regulated by CRPO; RSWs are regulated by OCSWSSW. Both can provide psychotherapy. Some extended health plans specify which designation they cover — it’s worth checking your benefits.

Is therapy covered by insurance in Ontario?

Many extended health benefit plans cover sessions with RPs or RSWs. Coverage varies by provider and plan. (📋 FLAG: Link to your Rates or Insurance page here once live)

What if I’m not sure what I need help with?

That’s completely okay — and very common. Your therapist will help you explore what’s bringing you in and where you’d like to go. You don’t need a clear goal to start.

Do you offer virtual therapy in Ontario?

Yes. Bliss Counselling offers virtual therapy to clients across Ontario, including the GTA, Waterloo Region, and beyond. Virtual sessions are conducted securely and are just as effective as in-person care for many concerns.

Where is Bliss Counselling located?

We have in-person locations in Waterloo, ON (7 Willow Street) and Milton, ON (5-69 Main St E), plus virtual services province-wide.
